Genealogy is a growing hobby for many people. Unfortunately, as more and more people begin an interest in their family history, the lack of accurately researched lineages has declined. Although this is largely due to the fact that many are uneducated in how to perform historical research and the problem solving techniques that trained researchers have spent years developing, other obstacles exist, like the lack of a single governing body to oversee genealogical research and no defined academic field to train new researchers.
Rootlines is an organization founded in 2012 to promote accuracy in genealogical research through sourcing and citations, using the historical citation format known as Turabian, and is dedicated to teaching those who ask in how to properly perform research concerning historical and genealogical documents. Rootlines is primarily donor sponsored and is able to continue this mission through the hard work of volunteers that freely give their time to ensure that the mission is a success!
Our professional services include a variety of genealogical endeavors, from basic research to all-inclusive family histories. We also have recently started training sessions with seasoned research specialists and professional genealogists. All fees collected from training and educational events go to purchase new records for the Rootlines website, which is currently free to the public (account required), and to pay for ongoing memberships to historical societies, genealogical societies, and other archival organizations that allow further research to be conducted and new teaching methods to be applied.
The staff and volunteers of Rootlines would like to welcome you to our blog and hope that what we post here will be of some help as you pursue your own journey through your family tree!
